Alopecia areata has many forms. It is usually localized, but may be widespread affecting the entire scalp or body. It often comes and goes, flaring in response to stress. Alopecia areata most commonly presents with smooth patches of non-scarring hair loss. Topical therapy or intra-lesional injections are usually effective in obtaining regrowth of hair.
